It was a full day of motoring, then sailing all day and all night. We left Port St. Lucie at 07:30 with very little wind to use. We motored out in search of the Gulf Stream.
At about 8nm offshore, we made the decision to just turn left and forget the Gulf Stream. It was too far away and not going towards St. Augustine. If anything, it would be headed due north and then turn a bit east. Maybe another time, when we go straight to Beaufort, NC, we will be able to ride that current all the way. We decided it was more fun to stay within cellular data range!
We were still going faster than predicted without a push from the Gulf Stream. As you can see above, we were sailing at over 8 knots when this picture was taken.
